Wrap yourself in Dean

It's tshirt time! Check out www.cafeshops.com/libbyh for some Dean tshirts. I take requests, so let me know if there's a tshirt you want. They're a little more expensive on CafeShops, but we can order individually that way.

Flyers and more flyers

If you're in Ann Arbor and have 20 minutes, email students@umfordean.org to help us flyer campus. Tonight and tomorrow we'll be spreading general Dean information. Later this week, we'll be flyering information about next week's MeetUp. After the MeetUp we'll hold a quick Students for Dean meeting, so I hope to see you all there.

Want to see a candidate with energy? This Salon article has one of the most telling photos of our man Dean - read the article.

Want to know who agrees with you?

I heard about selectsmart.com's presidential candidate selector at a Michigan for Dean meeting last night. I clicked through it this morning, and I'm a 100% match with Gov. Howard Dean! My Bush level was a little high for my taste, but it was probably that NRA question that got me.

Students returning in the next couple weeks, how do you want to contribute to the campaign? Students for Dean is not resume-padding; we're trying to elect a President here! Tabling at football, tabling at Meijer, chalking, canvasing, what are you willing to do to get Howard Dean elected? Feedback to students@umfordean.org.

Hey All,
Hope you were able to make it to the Meetup last night at Leopold Bros. It was a great turn out if you missed it. We will probably need to find a larger meeting place for the next one. We took a bunch of pictures, which should be posted sometime today.

Also, Dean has already started showing TV ads in New Hampshire, which you can view through Dean TV.

Jeff

House Party!

Hey, guys, Michigan's going to have a whole slew of house parties for Dean September 13th, and Dr. Dean himself will be calling those parties to say hello, answer questions, all that good stuff. After the Notre Dame beating at the Big House, swing by my apartment to make your donation and get in on the call. Details to come, but the party's after the game.

Dean on RAGBRAI

A man who spends time in Iowa is a man after my own heart. Have you heard that Dr. Dean is brave enough to spend a day participating in one of Iowa's best traditions? He grabbed a bike and joined thousands of riders from all over the world to ride in the Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI). Here's the story from the Des Moines Register. Thanks, Mom, for the heads up.

He also talked about his devotion to equal rights for persons with disabilities. One of the co-sponsors of the original ADA is backing Dr. Dean. Food for thought.

Enjoy the weekend, and GO HAWKS!

Another Libertarian Confession

Those of you who know me well know that I am a troubled Libertarian, and you're probably confused about why I decided to support Dean for President. He is, afterall, a Democrat. I've been drafting a response, but then I found a much better one written by another Libertarian for Dean. You can find it at his blog, dated Wednesday, May 21. There just isn't room for a Libertarian leader in our system, so I've chosen to back the next best thing, Howard Dean! Check out the other blog for details about how Howard Dean's stands on healthcare, security and personal freedoms are aligned more closely with libertarian philosophy than any of the other candidates.

Cheers,
Libby the Libertarian

Yes, Yes, Yes! Keep working hard team. As if you needed convincing, the Dean campaing continues to build strength.

We still need volunteers for the Festifall booth as well. Let me know if you can help us out,
Jeff

Hey Gang,
Art fair was a big success! Thanks to everyone who came by. Right now, I have the booth in a million pieces at my house waiting till September and Festifall. Here is a link to an article on Slate (MSN) about Howard Dean and his agenda for presidency.

Later all,
Jeff

Another glorious day in the Dean Camp. Again, let me repeat...GO SEE THE DEAN BOOTH! It is defintely one of the hits at the Art Fair. Go donate $1 or $2 or $100 or $100,000,000 (puts pinky to corner of mouth) MWAHAHAHA! Ok, just kidding. But go check it out. Only one day left (i.e. Saturday). Later Deanoids!

Another funny Doonesbury today, especially to other Iowans and me - Doonesbury @ Slate. As an Iowan, it often seems like I am a foreigner any time I leave my home state.

Dean is in Cedar Rapids, Iowa today, meetin' and greetin' with other Iowans. I know at least 2 people heading out to see him, so hopefully I can get updates from them.

I have heard from a number of Iowans that they liked our Meetup letters. One friend was so excited she forwarded her letter on. Sounds like people miss hand-written mail even more than I thought. Rest assured that the Dean conversation is taking over coffee shops and water coolers all over Iowa. Come on, Hawkeyes, get in gear and join up!
Hey Crew,
Check out our new website www.umfordean.org. Also, check out the Art Fair booth that Brit put together. It looks great! If you have not been to the Art Fair yet, what are you waiting for? Get down there. It is one of the biggest Art Fair's in the nation and probably the biggest event in Ann Arbor (next to Football Saturday's). Well, have a good one, and Libby and I will keep you updated of what is going on,
Jeff

Yo, Dean's List!

Art Fair starts tomorrow, as I'm sure you in Ann Arbor know, and with Art Fair comes another fantastic chance to promote Howard Dean, M.D. for President! Ann Arbor Dean supporters have a booth at the fair so stop by to learn more about our candidate.

Have you seen Doonesbury this week? So far it's about Dean supporters just like us. Here's today's Thanks to my brother for the Doonesbury tip.

From Dean's own blog posting - "One of the amazing things about this campaign is how the Internet has allowed people to meet and work together in common cause. Only by taking an active part in our democracy will we be able to restore a government of, by and for the people." That's why I'm with him. How about you?

For general information about Dean, see Dean For America.

" A government of the people, by the people, and for the people shall not perish from the earth." - Abraham Lincoln

Welcome to Students for Dean of the University of Michigan! Stay tuned for group updates, issues, and news from Dean for America.

Howdy! This is the first post for the University of Michigan Students for Dean Campaign. We will have a website coming very soon.

Also, we still need volunteers for Festifall on September 4th from 11-4. E-mail us if you can help out (jwoelker[at]umich[dot]edu, or libbyh[at]umich[dot]edu).

Later,
Jeff
